I Got The Blues ©2015 by Wondrous Music

I got the blues, and I can’t,
Get over it; get over it,
Get over it…

I survived the bottle, so far
I been around the block some, and that left a scar
I was playing for drinks and sleeping in closets
With a bag of clothes and a cheap guitar!

I got the blues, and I can’t,
Get over it; get over it,
Get over it…

I survived my 1st love; we had some spark
When we went up in flames; that left a mark
I was free on the road in the world’s best-fed band,
With a ‘62 limo and a tent in the park…

(I got em…) Instrumental Verse…

Bridge:

I saw the princess hold court all night,
Back in ’seventy-three
She left the bishop praying,
When she ran off with the prince of thieves

“Earth-dance” was a haven until the cold crept in,
Around the hemp fires in the music room
The last thing I heard the princess left crying
The truth is the bishop was crying too…

So many good things, I’ve seen
I’ve known some peace and I’ve made some green
but sometimes when I’m alone in the dark
My faith starts to get just a little bit lean…

I got the blues, and I can’t,
Get over it; get over it,
Get over it…

I got the blues, and I can’t,
Get over it; get over it,

Get over it…

Beautiful People ©1985 by Wondrous Music

Her hair flows long like a banner in the breeze,
It’s a definite tease, definitely
She walks to the sound of a different drum,
The drum she’s hearing in her own parade

She’s gotta be, one of the beautiful people
She’s gotta be, one of the beautiful people

She’s gotta smile makes the sun seem cool
And behind those eyes, she’s no fool
If you had connections like her “old man”,
Maybe she’d give you a chance

A chance to be, one of the beautiful people
A chance to be, one of the beautiful people

Bridge:

She’s got diamonds in her eyes…
She’s got fire in her heart…
She won’t compromise…
When it comes to love, no…

Instrumental…

She’s got style she’s so unique
She works down the street at a hip boutique
Like a “Grand Orange-Head Shop”, number-one hip stop
Only in the trendy towns

Where she is that’s where it’s at
Hanging in the park she’s one cool cat
And if you stay long she’ll get to you
And you could be, beautiful too…

You could be, one of the beautiful people
You could be, one of the beautiful people

Yeah, you could be, one of the beautiful people

Oh Yeah, you could be, one of the beautiful people…

It’s A Dog’s Life ©2012 William C. Kelly

It’s a dogs life That’s what they say
It’s a dog’s life lay a-round all day
A dog’s life They say it’s true
It’s a dog’s life with nothing to do

The man on the bench down front of the store
Says dogs ain’t nothing but a big eye sore
It was a dog that bit his brother Gerrard
and yesterday he chased one out of the yard

It’s a dogs life That’s what they say
It’s a dog’s life lay a-round all day
A dog’s life They say it’s true
It’s a dog’s life with nothing to do

I knew a dog named Mutt and a mutt named Fred
With a little tiny tail and a great big head
When walking down the road with a cat named Fran
They were chased back home by a goose named Stan…

That goose named Stan was king of the yard
If he could catch old Fred he’d pinch him hard
He’d stomp his tiny tale with no chit-chat
Cause he don’t like dogs and he don’t like cats! (oh brother…)

It’s a dogs life That’s what they say
It’s a dog’s life lay a-round all day
A dog’s life They say it’s true
It’s a dog’s life with nothing to do

Instrumental…

Now Mutt was fine as most dogs go
And Fran was a decent cat, don’t you know
It was that goose (named Stan), that had it wrong
He was quick to judge and too headstrong

Now a dog’s just a dog and a cat’s just a cat
And they ain’t to be treated like an old doormat
If Stan had just waved them on their way
He might have even made a few friends that day…

It’s a dogs life That’s what they say
It’s a dog’s life lay a-round all day
A dog’s life They say it’s true
It’s a dog’s life with nothing to do

It’s a dogs life That’s what they say
It’s a dog’s life lay a-round all day
A dog’s life They say it’s true
It’s a dog’s life with nothing to do

Treat this old dog nice, and he’ll be nice to you…

Living At The Home ©2008 William C. Kelly

He was the strongest guy I’d ever seen,
he knew all the tricks to every scheme
He had something to say about everything
and he got up with the sun

He worked all day went to bed at night knowing,
what was wrong and what was right
And, if you crossed him you had a fight
cause he’d never learned how to run
He was sure he knew right form wrong…

Living at the home, call him on Saturday,
Living at the home, be sure don’t call too late
Living at the home, we sit and don’t know what to say,
Living at the home, is a hard end to a proud man’s day…

He’d come home a hero from the War it’s true,
he carried the scars and some stories too
He married a farm girl that he knew
and packed his Bronze Star away

He went on to school and earned a degree,
then went to work for a big company
That “canned him” when he was “53”,
I guess they figured he’d find his way
With three kids and bills to pay…

Living at the home, call him on Saturday,
Living at the home, be sure don’t call too late
Living at the home, It hurts he can’t recall my name,
Living at the home, the strong can get old and tame…

Bridge:

Now he can’t really walk,
but he falls out of bed,
almost every night

He doesn’t know just where he is
but he can’t give up the fight
No he can’t give up the fight…

Now he lays in a room, with no friends or kin,
and dreams of times, “way back when”
But he can’t recall if it’s now or then,
if he’s lonely or just plain cold

Nurses come in and then they leave,
he can’t hear no more or know what he sees
Last time I saw him he said to me,
“Something’s wrong I got so old…
Something’s wrong I got so…”

Living at the home,…
Living at the home,…
Living at the home you can wrap a man and still he’s cold

Living at the home you’ll find some tired and lonely souls…

Tired And Worn ©2015 William C. Kelly

Saturday on Main St. in a “one cafe” town
Ten in the morning, it’s already shut down

Home is where the heart is,
and every rose has it’s thorn
As I stand alone on Main St.,
My heart is tired and worn…

I walked on (down the street), and in a block or two,
A sign at the “Lonely-Heart” said, “Baby, this means you!”

Home is where the heart is,
and every rose has it’s thorn
As I stand alone on Main St.,
My heart is tired and worn…

I’m aching, I’m aching
my heart is aching, ooohh…

Home is where the heart is,
and every rose has it’s thorn
As I stand alone on Main St.,
My heart is tired and worn…

SOLO…

I’ve seen sunny days in Chicago and Millinocket, Maine
When I get home to my house, it’s always wind and rain

Home is where the heart is,
and every rose has it’s thorn
As I stand alone on Main St.,
My heart is tired and worn…

Gonna find a shack on the water where I can sit and pine
But it won’t be long before I, follow the highway signs

Home is where the heart is,
and every rose has it’s thorn
As I stand alone on Main St.,
My heart is tired and worn…

I’m aching, I’m aching
my heart is aching, ooohh…

Home is where the heart is,
and every rose has it’s thorn
As I stand alone on Main St.,
My heart is tired and worn…

As I stand alone on Main St.,
My heart is tired and worn…

Montana In The Spring ©1979 William C. Kelly

Another winter coming on, I’m poor just like the last one,
Voices in my head keep saying things will never change.
But I think I hear a new bell in the choir, yes, it’s ringing,
I might go to Montana in the spring…

Well, I guess I’ve spent a lot of time just thinking ’bout my past,
A buddy says I gotta keep my mind on what I’m doing,
And, yes I guess he’s right I best be watchin’ for the changes,
I might go to Montana in the spring.

You know the last time was a good time,
And I tell you it was so damned cold out there,
And, I’m a boy from New York with my feet set down in Maine,
And, it might just be the memories, make me look that way again…

I recall those long-hired cowboys and those rednecks are O.K.,
I even know a place or two that I could maybe play,
’Course Maine still feels like home and I got good friends by the sea,
But, I might go to Montana in the spring…

Solo…

You know the last time was my first time,
And I tell you folks are so damned wild out there,
And, I been down the road a ways, seen sun and I’ve seen rain,
And, it might just be the memories, make me look that way again…

I recall those long-hired cowboys and those rednecks are O.K.,
I even know a place or two that I could maybe play,
’Course Maine still feels like home and I got good friends by the sea,
But, I might go to Montana in the spring…

You know the people I been dealing with been plenty good to me,
But I might go to Montana in the spring…

I’ll Never Let You Go ©2014 William C. Kelly

A young man likes adventure and excitement, yes it’s true
He’ll walk for miles to strike out on his own

Yet, something tugs his heart-line
His head is out on cloud nine
He can feel it by the rail line
Through the gang signs and the cheap wine

He’ll walk for miles to find his way back home…

I’ll never let you go, when it’s
Late past midnight you can know
I’ll be at your side, as long as you want me,
As far as you want to go…

A woman filled with longing for just one man can’t be swayed
She’ll walk for miles through disappointment and despair

She’ll hang on through the heartbreak
And take any excuse that’s half-baked
She’ll pray for God at daybreak
To let good come from his mistakes

She’ll walk for miles when he says he needs her there….

Instrumental…

A man can find it hard to say the words of love, it’s true
He’ll walk for miles through the world as in a trance

He’ll lay awake at midnight
Afraid to speak of love just outright
And he wonders if she’s alright
And he’ll jump to play the white knight

He’ll walk for miles when he’s caught up in romance…

I’ll never let you go, when it’s
Late past midnight you can know
I’ll be at your side, as long as you want me,

As far as you want to go…

Put That Bottle Down ©2015 William C. Kelly

Put that bottle down Willy, it will only cause you pain…
Put that bottle down Willy, it will only cause you pain…
You’ll hurt everyone around you,and bring your family shame…

Two days without a drink (he was)
Aching in his heart (he was)
Shaking skin to bone like his
Bones would come apart…

Another day of crying (he was)
Praying in the weeds (he was)
Scared, God’d turned a blind eye like old
Willy was a bad seed…

Put that bottle down Willy, it will only cause you pain…
Put that bottle down Willy, it will only cause you pain…
You’ll hurt everyone around you,and bring your family shame…

A preacher found him kneeling (he was)
Face-down in a can (he was)
Praying to just die there when the
Priest said, “take my hand”

Willy he just stayed there (he said)
I got my own plan (he said)
One day I’ll be better…
I’ll drink like a man

Willy he just died there (they said)
He got what he said (they said)
Got his man-sized coffin (they cried)
Poor old Willy’s dead…

Put that bottle down Willy, it will only cause you pain…
Put that bottle down Willy, it will only cause you pain…
You’ll hurt everyone around you,and bring your family shame…

Put that bottle down Willy!…
Put that bottle down Willy!…
Put that bottle down Willy!…

It will only cause you pain…

Death Valley Scotty ©1978 William C. Kelly

On a dim afternoon in the month of November
at home in an adirondack town
My dad held a worn leather book of old pictures
The leather embossed, the pages stiff and brown

In the photo a man stood tall in the desert
And when I asked him who might that be
My old man, he looked me square in the eye,
Said “Willy you don’t know him, that’s hard to believe”

Why that’s “Death Valley Scottie” a legend in his time, it’s true
“Death Valley Scottie”, a serious soul and a rich man too

For currency he’d pull out a bag of gold
He’d pay his way right on the spot
Then he’d take what he had just purchased
And give it away as likely as not

Why one day he bought a candy store,
Said, “Now I’m the owner let’s open the doors…”
Rounded up all the kids in town, said
“Take what you want, this store is yours…”

Steel eyes, a dusty white shirt, and suspenders
Wore a fine looking Stetson hat
He’d searched ’round the west and kept his findings a mystery
And he looked to be happy right where he “was at”

Yes, Death Valley Scottie,… he’d not tell his secret it’s true
Death Valley Scottie, a cagey prospector and a rich man too

Yes, Death Valley Scottie, ooh…

Death Valley Scottie, these days there aren’t many men ’round like you

Hard Times and Trouble ©2006 William C. Kelly

I got trouble on the left I got heartaches on the right
I’m carrying so much baggage you can just call me Samsonite
I got the hard times and trouble, I got the hard times and trouble
I got the hard times and trouble and I’m carrying a worried mind…

I had a job w/ benefits, a card to the local gym
A pickup and my payments were, right on time
I was working overtime when my boss comes walking down the line
With a pink slip says, “Bill your job is done tonight

I got trouble on the left I got heartaches on the right
I’m carrying so much baggage you can just call me Samsonite
I got the hard times and trouble, I got the hard times and trouble
I got the hard times and trouble and I’m carrying a worried mind…

I got the mid-drift spread that gives my heart some dread
I got cramps in places I won’t say
I got middle-age eyes, I can’t see at night
You see me coming, get outta my way

Instrumental…

I got a broken heart, too many times to count
My heart’s been stomped on in scandalous ways
So I’m sad and blue but what would you have me do
I do what I can, and I live for today…
I live for today…

I got trouble on the left I got heartaches on the right
I’m carrying so much baggage you can just call me Samsonite
I got the hard times and trouble, I got the hard times and trouble
I got the hard times and trouble and I’m carrying some worries…

Hard times and trouble and I’m carrying some worries…

Hard times and trouble and I’m carrying a worried mind…

Home Town Boy ©2006 William C. Kelly

There was never a sailor’s song written,
without an eye on the stars
and a hand on the tiller, headed far from home
The wind in his hair, with the whales he roams

You can fill up his life with women and spice,
But it’s life on the water he loves

The high seas might be right for a salty old sailor
But it ain’t right for a home town boy, no…

There was never a long dusty trail
that wouldn’t serve for a cowboy
Riding hands off the reins, for God knows where
Or riding the rodeos, with his eye on the mares

You can deal him a pat hand, with a big house and lots of land
But you know that he always will roam…<br
/></br

That hard trail might be right for a dusty old cowboy
But it ain’t right for a home town boy, no…

Well, wining and dining and life’s lots of laughs
No cares for the future, no ties to the past

That high life might be right for some but now listen
It ain’t right for a home town boy, no

It ain’t right for a home town boy, no no…

After Dark ©2013 William C. Kelly

Bangor Molly at sunset
She’s pretty, as pretty gets
Carefree hope in her face
Peace and kindness, no regrets

As she touched my neck
And together we danced

After dark, hanging out at JP’s
After dark, and we were all so carefree
After dark, the nights are but a memory
But the memory makes me smile…

Long dark curls smiling eyes
Blue as the cloudless, summer sky
Life was easy, all in fun
No need to worry or wonder why

As she touched my arm
And together we danced

After dark, hanging out at JP’s
After dark, and we were all so carefree
After dark, the nights are but a memory
But the memory makes me smile…

Euphoric recall can make the past look so kind
Faced with lonesome, it’s no wonder love is blind
In remembering, a little kindness has no fee
As for lost loves, we’re not lost we’re just set free…

Instrumental

After dark, hanging out at JP’s
After dark, and we were all so carefree
After dark, the nights are but a memory
But the memory makes me smile…

After dark, we were hanging out at JP’s
After dark, and we were all so carefree
After dark, the nights are but a memory

But the memory makes me smile…

Howdy Say’s Goodbye ©1988 William C. Kelly

He was a young man once, but no one remembers
In a different town, but no one knows where
And now he’s walking down, for another bottle
He’ll hang around awhile, then Howdy says goodbye…

He has a dream sometimes, of a girl in Eastham
With hair so long, and loving eyes…
And as he’s thumbing down another long ride
He puts that dream away, then Howdy says goodbye…

He signed the drifters pole, outside Salina
He spent the night alone, last Christmas eve
And everyone was having fun, when they saw him sleeping
Outside a club he used to play…

Instrumental

He was a jazzman once, but no one remembers
In a different town, he played some blues
And now he’s stumbling’ down, for another bottle
He hangs around awhile then, Howdy says goodbye…

Howdy says goodbye,… Howdy says goodbye,…
