Another Day ©1988 by Wondrous Music

There’s fire in the sky beyond the hill
The moon she watches by as the fire grows
The stars silent, retire because they know…

It’s another day…

And so yesterday’s sun will shine today
And trees so tall and still will find friends
In birds who want to sing their song again

It’s another day…

Drop The Rock ©2000 by Wondrous Music

I don’t, own you woman, I can’t, tie you down
I can’t stop you baby from, running ‘round
I don’t own you woman, I can’t, tie you down…
But I don’t need this heartache, I’m freedom bound

I can’t hang the moon or make the sun go down
I can’t change your mind from churning ‘round and ‘round
I don’t hang the moon, or make the sun go down
I just live today, I’m freedom bound… time to,

Drop the rock, don’t let it pull you down, time to
Drop the rock, don’t let it take you under, time to
Drop the rock, Don’t let it take you down!

Drop the rock, don’t let it pull you down…

Never Learn To Sing The Blues ©2002 William C. Kelly

Childhood filled with memories,
flags waving in the breeze,
Fireworks in July
But there’s some things you don’t remember,
mama had a wicked temper,
Daddy worked late, didn’t even call

So you been so abused,
now you’re just so confused
And you don’t know how to sing the blues…

The world’s so happy; skies so blue,
people are so nice to you,
And it makes you want to cry
And there’s some things you don’t recall,
like getting beaten in the hall,
And you don’t remember why

So you been so abused,
now you’re just so confused
And you don’t know how to sing the blues…

Hmmm…

Friends they die family to and
they don’t say goodbye to you,
Just leave you all alone
And there’s some things you don’t remember,
a heart got broken one September,
And never seemed to mend…

So you been so abused,
now you’re just so confused
And you don’t know how to sing the blues…

You never learn how to sing the blues…

Don’t Fall For A Machine ©2002 William C. Kelly
Oh love can take you ’round and ’round
and ’round if you don’t watch your step
The gentle times can be so fine but
That’s not always all you get

Don’t fall for a machine, don’t, fall for “just anyone”
Don’t fall for a machine, don’t fall for “just anyone”…

Now the lonely days when they come by are
All that you can think about
In hopes someone will soon appear to
Cure you of your pain and doubt

But the tall dark stranger rarely cures us
Of our aimless longing
The magic potion we desire
Is usually made of simpler things

Chorus

Now when you choose someone to share
your longing and your secrets with
Don’t be too quick to give your all,
You deserve the best
That anyone has got to offer you
If you go for less that’s what you’ll get
The one that looks for love that’s real
Is the one who finally wins

Now someone treats you without a care
For what you think and how you feel
Even if you’re sure they’ll change
With all that change there’s no good deal
So now don’t be bitter, don’t regret the
Times you’ve spent with someone wrong for you
Have faith, don’t be afraid and
When it’s time to move along

Chorus,… (don’t fall for “just anyone”…)

Adam’s Song (Life Is Good) ©2002 William C. Kelly

I hear drums, on the wind;
He’s playing again, that’s my friend
Marking time, for swaying trees,
the howling wind and the gentle breeze

God called him home,
his choices gone, he had to go
And life is good in His plan
And the truth be known, I miss the man

Life is short, is so cliché,
but when you pass you’re gone to stay
Yet still you’re here in stories told,
of the good old days (and) in songs we play

When God calls me home,
I hope you’ll know, I’ll miss you so
But life is good in His plan

And I’ve got friends in the Promised Land…

Three Dragons ©2002 William C. Kelly

Three Dragons, each of them strong,
Seems they only fight, they refuse to get along
Three Dragons, follow me to bed at night,
One of them is praying while the other 2 just fight

How am I ‘spose to feel, where am I gonna go?
If God would only tell me, then I’d know, then I’d know…

I should go for a walk around this town,
Shake off the dust see who’s out hanging ’round
Reach for my coat and what do I hear

No, no, no, no… (“A thought is creeping up on me”)
No, no, no… (“A feeling is creeping up on me”)
Maybe I’ll just stay home….

Chorus

I’m up when she smiles, then I’m down when she frowns
‘Think I’m getting by, then I’m sure I’m losing ground
It’s time to relax, maybe go see a show…

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,… (“A thought is creeping up on me”)
Yeah, yeah, yeah (“A feeling is creeping up on me”)
It’s time to lighten up and let go…

The dragon’s just a whisper, I can wrap my heart in blankets,
made of love & made of kindness & a will to feel alright

The dragon’s just a whisper, I can build upon my temple,
show my faith in the Word & have a will to do what’s right

Life is all the colors & designs that we paint
upon the canvas that we’re given at the dawning of the day…

I Love the Peace & Quiet at the dawning of the day…

Chorus

All the Chances ©1988 and 2010 William C. Kelly

They met in high school; he would walk her down the shady lane
He was a “Don Juan”, in his dreams she was the only one
They were married in a storm that came with their 1st born…

Lived in a mill town just a while and they were blessed again
It wasn’t very long before they saw the writing on the wall
They wouldn’t ask the questions so no answers came

The years flowed by like the wind it scatters the autumn leaves
They turned 45 and their dreams turned prematurely gray
They parted in a storm that left them tired and worn…

Now Susie’s selling kisses for a ride in a fancy car,
Johnny’s selling nickels for a free high
Their Dad knew he had to take down that guy behind the bar
but he was blacked out and he can’t remember why…
The Judge that heard the case said, “Two to five.”

Mama’s been dating a married man, say’s he’ll leave his wife one day
He says that in her dreams but it won’t ever be
A good home in the country, don’t come, from a cheatin’ man

Mama moved to a small town with no friends or memories to hold her down
Dad came looking for a job that might ignore his past
Against the odds they found themselves standing face to face…

Without a thing to gain, he said, “Girl the years have done you fine.”
He started thinking about the dreams they’d had when they were young
They stood there talking and the answer came…

All the chances, I left wasted
Standing at the door of opportunity
I been knockin’ a long time but I never walked in

I never walked in…

Time to live where you’re going, leave where you been…

I’m Not Saying ©2001 William C. Kelly

I’m not saying she’s the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen,
It just seems that way to me
I’m not saying, in a crowd she’s all I see
It just no one else matters to me

As I look in her eyes I can say what I mean
Like I’ve known her forever and she smiles at me…

She won’t break my heart, we’re a love that will never be

When she gets on the dance floor, it’s such a good time
And she’s way too young to be looking so fine
And I’m way too old to be feeling so bold
But she smiles right back and when it’s time to go…

She won’t break my heart, we’re a love that will never be…

Woodstock Lament ©2001 William C. Kelly

What happened to Peace, Love, and watching for each other
What happened to Peace, Love, and we gonna save the world
What happened to Peace, Love, and doing the right thing
What happened to the music and the people,
who spent the weekend on the farm

I was young and buying into the story,
Saying we were part of a new renaissance
And now we struggle for the money
Cheating ain’t bad it’s “just business”,
if it covers the bottom line

Chorus

I heard a medicine song near Fargo,
Sung in words that were already dead and gone
But that won’t get me a cup of coffee
Don’t be taking space at the counter
if you’re gonna just pass the time

(What happened?…)

And now we don’t get together, there’s just no time
And friends they don’t meet on Sunday, there’s just no time
And Sara’s gone off to the Madi Gras, just yesterday
We stood atop Mt. Battie watching boats across the bay
And using the quarter glasses with ice cream on our face…

Chorus… …I guess they just grew old…

Jonestown ©1988 William C. Kelly

Remember the day of the lost man’s revolution,
They lay down in a pool of glory
To follow a man with God in his hand
And not in his heart…

It’s a man’s right to die for he believes in
Or so they tell me and you can believe
It’s not right to take a man’s wife and children
He said, “just follow me”…

And so they did and so they died
And there’s even some pictures of how they last cried
And if you’re on to pray, you can pray for the dead
And pray for the survivors

And remember the day of the lost man’s revolution,
They lay down in a pool of glory
To follow a man with God in his hand,
And not in his heart

Don’t follow a man with God in his hand, And not in his heart…

Reinvent the Wheel ©1994 William C. Kelly

I saw them in the shadows, crouched against the door
in the alley I’d been sleeping in the night before
One guy had the cash the other had the high,
and I began to have some doubts about this life of mine…

I just moved along because I knew them both too well,
I knew the guy that had the stash, I’d seen the guy had the cash
Talking right and wrong, I don’t always get it right,
for now I’ll go another hour, I might get through the night

People crying,… people dying…, people saying,…
“That’s just the way it is…”
If the wheels, you been riding, they ain’t working,
It’s time to reinvent the wheel…

It started out so innocent, not that long ago
looking for answers to some things he didn’t know
One guy told the story, like a fairy tale
It didn’t sound so dangerous, didn’t sound so strange…

You just take a hit on this and chill out a while
You knew he had an answer by the cunning in his smile
They found the kid laid out where the caller said he’d be
Now he wears a cunning smile, for eternity

Chorus…

We make our way…
We make our way…
We live the life we lead !

Hey’d, you hear about Nicky, he said he’s going straight
He got tired of running from the things he couldn’t change
‘Said he’s gonna finish school, gonna change his fate
I almost start to wonder if that could work for me…

Chorus…

Time to reinvent the wheel…

Hey Baby ©1988 William C. Kelly

Hey baby,… why won’t you talk to me
Hey baby,… why won’t you look at me
Hey,… did I treat you bad, no
Hey,… did I make you sad, baby

We, move on,…
So, long,…
On and on…

Hey baby,… why you crying
Hey baby,… why you yelling at me
Hey,… did I do you wrong, no
Hey,… was it all that bad, maybe

We, move on,…
So, long,…
On and on…

Hey baby,… I saw you at the show
Hey baby,… having fun without me
Hey,… did I put you down, no
Hey,… I’ll see you down the line, maybe

We, move on,…
So, long,…
On and on…

From the CD “Another Day” (2002), Track 12
